TO PAY ATTENTION OR TO NOT PAY ATTENTION / LovePaysNoAttention

This is the 3rd of 3 devotions with the theme
taken from 1 Corinthians 13:5

“Love Never Keeps A Record Of A Suffered Wrong”

TO PAY ATTENTION
OR TO NOT PAY ATTENTION
by
Kent Clifford Cooley

(Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:5)

Sometimes the things that we should be ignoring are the things that we are paying attention to. And sometimes things we should be paying attention to are the things we are ignoring or showing no interest in. When gossip fills the air, ears perk up when a deaf ear should be turned. Many times children ignore the advice of their parents when this is the most important time they should be paying attention and listening intently. If a student fails to pay attention to the instructor, he will quickly fall behind. Sometimes our choices create unfavorable situations that are irreversible.

What keeps us on track, knowing what to attend to and what to ignore? And even if we know what we are supposed to pay attention to and what we are to disregard, how do we have the power to carry that out day to day and hour by hour? Our answer is found in the Word of the Living God. Only by renewing our minds daily on the truths and treasures found in the Word do we really know what choices to make. We walk in the steps of the Messiah by renewing our minds by His Word. Ask yourself, “would Love pay attention to this or would Love ignore this?” When you are grounded in the Word, you will receive power to answer this question and carry it out in your daily life.

The love chapter tells us what LOVE pays no attention to and instructs us to do the same.

“Love takes no account
of an evil done to it,
it pays no attention to a suffered wrong.”

Father, I turn my heart toward You. I seek truth and treasure in Your Word. Thank you for the power today to make right choices because of the Word I sought out yesterday.

 Love Pays No Attention
(Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:5)
Verse 1:
Sometimes we listen
to words we should ignore
Like negativity and words that scorn
Somebody's not forgiving
Somebody's not forgetting
And another scandals being born
Chorus 1:
Love take no account
Of an evil done to it
No matter the amount,
No matter how long
Others may mention
Offenses that have been done to it
But love pays not attention
To a suffered wrong
Verse 2:
Sometimes we ignore
Words we should be listening to like
Life giving words that instruct
The father says to the son
"listen to my words,
They will bring life to everyone"
Bridge:
I listen to words of good advise
I turn a deaf ear to words that criticize
I love my neighbor
I build them up
I love the Lord
I listen to His words that instruct
Chorus 2:
I take no account
Of an evil done to me
No matter the amount,
No matter how long
Others may mention
Offenses that have been done to me
But I pay no attention
To a suffered wrong

FORGIVE & FORGET / I Forgive

This is the 2nd of 3 devotions
with the theme taken from 1 Corinthians 13:5
“Love Never Keeps A Record Of A Suffered Wrong”

FORGIVE AND FORGET
by
Kent Clifford Cooley

(Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:5; John 13:34)

“Love is not resentful;
it takes no account of the evil done to it,
it pays no attention to a suffered wrong.”

Consider the love that Jesus himself expressed at Calvary. If there was ever a reason to be offended and a motive for resentment, Calvary was it. Jesus expressed His Father’s love as described 1 Corinthians 13:5 on the Hill of Golgotha. He displayed no resentment before, during or after the crucifixion. In fact, he prayed that His Father would forgive his abusers and not hold it against them. When those that crucified the Savior of the world stands before God on the Day of Judgment, they will each give an account for every deed done in the flesh, as every man will. However, as they stand before Almighty God on that great day, there will be no record of them having crucified the Son of God.
During His ministry on earth, Jesus gave us a new commandment and He exemplified it throughout his ministry and at his death:

“I give you a new commandment:
that you should love one another.
Just as I have loved you,
so you too should love one another.”

Jesus, I want to love like you love. I want You to express your love through me. Because of Your example, I pray this with great conviction. I forgive. I forget. I do not resent. I will not keep a record of a suffered wrong.

I FORGIVE
(Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:5; John 13:34)
Verse:
Jesus did not resent
The one who drove the nails into His hands
Jesus did not resent
The soldier who pierced His precious side
He cryed Father forgive them
For they know not what they do
I can no less but to follow suit
Chorus:
I forgive / I’m not offended
I forgive / I will not resent
I forgive / I not offended
Now I live and let live, I forgive
Bridge:
Love does not keep a record
Of a suffered wrong
Love does not keep a record
That’s why I sing this song
I sing this song

HOW TO FORGET AN OFFENSE / Never Keep A Record

This is the 1st of 3 devotions
with the theme taken from 1 Corinthians 13:5
“Love Never Keeps A Record Of A Wrong Done To It”

HOW TO FORGET AN OFFENSE
by
Rebecca Cooley

(Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:5; Matthew 5:40-44)

“I can forgive but I cannot forget!”

How many times have we heard this statement? Is it a true statement? Is it possible to not only forgive but to also forget? Are we truly forgiving an offense if we are not also forgetting an offense?

The opposite of forgetting is to remember. To remember is to reconstruct something in our mind or to become aware of something that has been forgotten. To remember also means to retain or commit an idea to memory without forgetting it.

In order to begin the process of forgetting an offense or wrong, I must not dwell on the offense in my thoughts or reconstruct the offense with my words in a conversation. Jesus gave us instruction on how to take action on the process of forgiving and forgetting.

"If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt,
let him have your coat also.
And if anyone forces you to go one mile,
go with him two miles.
Give to him who keeps on begging from you,
And do not turn away from him who would borrow from you.
You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy;
But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

Now that we are not reconstructing the offense in thoughts or conversation, let’s construct actions of love and kindness and respect and speak words of life and love about those who we confess to forgive.

Father, I take heed to your Word and I will not keep a record of wrongs done to me. I will not play those recordings over in my mind or form words about them, reconstructing the offense. I relinquish to you all of the records that I have stored in my memory of wrongs done to me. I will replace the negative thoughts that come up in my mind with blessings. I do forgive and I can forget! Thank you for the grace you give me not only to forgive but also to forget every wrong done to me.

NEVER KEEP A RECORD
(Adapted from 1 Corinthians 13:5; Matthew 5:40-44)
Verse:
I confessed my sins
He was faithful to forgive
And to cleanse me from my siN
He destroyed the records of the wrong I had done
He removed them from His memory
He told me to love others with this same love
To forgive them even as I’ve been forgiven
So I throw away the records of the wrongs done to me
Lord remove them from my memory
Chorus 1:
Love never keeps a record of the wrongs done to it
Love never brings the subject up
Love does not reconstruct what forgiveness has torn apart
Love never keeps a record of the wrong done to it
Chorus 2:
I will never keep a record of the wrongs done to me
I will never bring the subject up
I won’t reconstruct what forgiveness has torn apart
I will never keep a record of the wrongs done to me
Bridge:
I forgive even as I’ve been forgiven
All the wrongs I recall they are none
I forget for my sins have been forgotten
That’s the least I can do because of all He has done
