He gives us richly all things to enjoy

ENJOY JUNE

(Adapted from Ecclesiastes 12:13; 1 Timothy 6:17)
The blueberries are harvesting.  You can go right down the road and handpick them.  Bogue Sound watermelons are ripening on the vine right here in eastern North Carolina, the best watermelon in the country.  Silver Queen corn is brought in from the fields and sold at the corner fruit stand.  It only lasts for a few weeks but there is no sweeter corn in the world.  And tomatoes are growing on vines in back yard buckets.  School’s out; hurricane season has begun, the baseball fields are full of kids and if you sit on the front porch, you might hear the sound of the ice cream truck turning the corner in the neighborhood.  It is June everywhere you look!

I overheard a conversation in a beauty shop one time.  A young woman who was strikingly beautiful and intelligent and a newlywed and had recently given her heart to God was telling another woman that she felt she had no purpose in life.  She said she was searching to see what she was to do with her life.  I wasn’t supposed to be listening but if she had asked me, I would have told her she could find her answer in the writings of Solomon:

“All has been heard and the end of the matter is this:
Fear God – revere and worship Him
and keep His commandments,
For this is the whole of man
- the full, original purpose of his creation,
the object of God’s providence,
the root of character,
the foundation of all happiness,
the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances
and conditions under the sun
and the whole duty of man.”

Today, Solomon might say it like this:
After all is said and done, the end of the matter is this:
Glorify God by acknowledging His presence; enjoy Him and His creation.

Life is meant to be enjoyed with laughing, dancing, love and peace.

A wise person can sort out life’s complexities and still balance the joys with the sorrow, the calm with the pain and the peace with the battle.

A wise person knows the foundation of all happiness and respects God and His creation.

Father, I look around me on this June afternoon, and I am reminded to enjoy your creation.  Thank you for the change of seasons, the process of seed time and harvest and the remarkable beauty of Your divine design.  Enjoying your presence inspires me to walk in love.  I understand and know this is my entire purpose in life.

JUNE AFTERNOON
Devotion:  Enjoy June!
(Adapted from 1 Timothy 6:17)
Verse 1
Where to go on a hot summer day
Where to go, where to get away
Let's just stay home
And sit in the shade on this June afternoon
Chorus
It's a June afternoon (repeat)
Sitting in the shade,
Holding hands and smelling sweet perfume
On this June afternoon
Verse 2
The fan is roaring in the open window
Watermelon juice is dripping down little chins
The water is fine,
Come on and jump in
On this June afternoon
Bridge
I can't paint a better picture
Than the one before my eyes
My little wife and all my babies
Happy, content enjoying life
